Because we offer more vision correction options at Arrowsmith Eye Institute than most other centers in Tennessee, Dr. Arrowsmith can treat a much broader range of patients. Our IntraLase FS60 LASIK Flap Laser and WaveLight Allegretto laser are unsurpassed for laser vision technology in the United States. Using this combination of lasers, we provide Bladeless LASIK, Standard LASIK, LASEK, PRK, Blended Vision and MonoVision to dramatically correct the vision condititions of almost all patients. This includes, nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia (decreased reading vision). Even severe astigmatism can now be corrected. Patients of more mature age (older) frequently can benefit from these procedures, including after cataract surgery!
Vision correction is no longer just for those younger than 55! Patients in their 50's, 60's and beyond deserve excellent vision opportunities too!
In addition, lens implants such as the Verisyse Implantable Contact Lens (and the newer Visian Implantable Contact Lens) allow us to correct severe and even extreme amounts of neasightedness even in patients with very thin corneas.
Cataract patients have more choices too! New lens implants not only restore clear vision after removal of a cataract, they can also restore reading vision and largely eliminate the need for glasses. The newest lens implants for cataract patients, the ReSTOR, ReZoom, Crystalens and others can retore distance, reading, computer (intermediate), and night vision!
Ideal candidates for vision correction procedures at Arrowsmith Eye Institute are usually 18 years of age or older with stable vision and healthy corneas. Your eyes must be free of vision-threatening diseases or conditions, such as, uncontrolled or advanced glaucoma or diabetic eye disease. This is why our pre-operative examination is so comprehensive.
We can treat mild, moderate and severe levels of myopia (nearsightedness), as well as mild to moderate and severe levels of hyperopia (farsightedness). Also, it is now possible to treat far more astigmatism, even severe amounts, while treating myopia or hyperopia all at the same time! And in most cases, patients with dry eyes can be treated as well!
The type of vision correction procedure you receive at Arrowsmith Eye Institute to treat your refractive error will depend on the following:
