Peter N. Arrowsmith, M.D.

A pioneer in the field of eye surgery

Peter N. Arrowsmith, M.D., opened his practice in Nashville, Tennessee in December 1977. He is devoted exclusively to refractive surgery. His areas of expertise include Laser Vision Correction (PRK, LASIK and LASEK) using the VISX Star S4 excimer laser, the Allegreto WaveLight excimer laser, IntraLase FS60 and the Verisyse Implantable Lens. He also has experience using the Summit Apex laser for both PRK and LASIK and is certified on the Nidek EC 5000 excimer laser. He performs refractive cataract surgery, often using specialized multifocal and astigmatic implants. This helps cataract patients to achieve freedom from glasses.

Dr. Arrowsmith earned his undergraduate degree, Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. He also completed an additional year in graduate research in the area of enzyme kinetics and completed three years of studies in engineering. He went on to receive his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine in Miami, Florida where he was selected for the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. During his medical school training he had substantial experience at the world renowned Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Following his internship in internal medicine and residency in ophthalmology at Vanderbilt University Hospital he opened his practice in Nashville.

Clinical research has been a large part of Dr. Arrowsmith's training. He has written extensively about his research in the area of refractive surgery, and is a grant recipient from the National Eye Institute Study. He is one of a select number of surgeons in the United States chosen as an FDA investigator for advanced study of refractive surgical procedures. Dr. Arrowsmith is currently conducting several FDA clinical trials.

Dr. Arrowsmith is the Founder and Medical Director of Arrowsmith Eye Institute, the Eye Surgery Center of Middle Tennessee and the Eye Research Foundation. Both Arrowsmith Eye Institute and the Eye Surgery Center of Middle Tennessee have been granted the highest level of accreditation by the AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Healthcare, Inc.). Our recently expanded and updated surgery center features family reception areas, comfortable pre-and post-operative areas, four operating suites, three new lasers and the most advanced technology and equipment available today.

Dr. Arrowsmith is a board certified diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, member of the International Society of Refractive Surgery, member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
