Because of our pioneering efforts in refractive surgery and Dr. Arrowsmith's early work with world-renowned eye surgeon Prof. Jan F. Worst, M.D. in Holland, Arrowsmith Eye Institute was selected as the exclusive site in Tennessee to offer patients the benefits of the Verisyse ™ Implantable Lens. The Verisyse ™ Implantable Lens is currently being used to treat moderate to extreme levels of nearsightedness.* During the past decade, thousands of Artisan (Verisyse) lenses have been implanted in patients throughout Europe, and results continue to indicate the Verisyse lens may have certain optical advantages over LASIK with patients with high myopia.
Dr. Arrowsmith studied with Dr. Worst in the development of the Verisyse lens and helped introduce these lenses to the United States at international eye surgery meetings. The Verisyse lens is designed to treat moderate to high levels of nearsightedness in people who prefer the concept of a permanent contact lens over LASIK, or for patients whose corneas are not suitable for laser treatment.
The Verisyse lens is implanted into the anterior chamber of the eye (between the iris and the innermost corneal surface) with an individual corrective power calculated in much the same way the power for a standard contact lens is calculated. In fact, Dr. Arrowsmith has obtained 2 patents for calculating the strenght of the lens needed for each patient.
* The Verisyse Implantable Lens recieved
FDA approval September, 2004.
